Bozidar Kovacic

Božidar Kovačič was born on 31.3.1955. In Poljčane, Slovenia. He attended elementary school and later attended the Music School in Maribor. He successfully completed the Academy of Music in 1979 in Ljubljana in the department for strings – direction of double bass with Prof. Luciano Bole. That same year, he was regularly employed at the Maribor Opera Orchestra, which he had already participated in during his studies. His role is the principal double bass player. He was among the founders of the re-awakening of the Maribor Philharmonic and its long-time president. He participated at the International Music Festival September, the Festival of Maribor, and among other things, played with world-renowned musicians such as: Radovan Vlatkovič, Irena Grafenauer, Dag Jensen, Miloš Mlejnik, Albrecht Meyer, Arvid Engegard, Louise Pelleren, Clara Dent, Mate Bekavac, Goran Košuta, Richard Tognetti, Satu Vansk and others. As a soloist and member of the orchestra, he has been toured various countries of Europe and the world (Czech Republic, Austria, England, Germany, Italy, Taiwan, Japan).

At the secondary music school in Maribor, he taught bass part-time from 1980 to 1991, and since 2002, he has been regularly employed at the Conservatory of Music Maribor as a double bass teacher at the art gymnasium. Some of his students successfully continued their studies and also graduated from the Academy of Music in Ljubljana.
