REGULATIONS OF THE COMPETITION
Article 1
The MUSIC SCHOOL DAVORIN JENKO of BELGRADE organizes the music competition titled “Davorin Jenko International Music Competition”. The event is addressed to children and young students, coming from public and private music institutions worldwide, both music schools and academies of music/conservatoires, as well as participants amateurs in special discipline. The competition’s purpose is to promote music culture by encouraging young people to study musical instruments and mutually share their knowledge.
Article 2
The competition is structured in the following seven disciplines:
I. Piano Solo;
II. Piano Duo (piano in four hands or two pianos);
III. Non-Wind Chamber Ensembles (includes performances by groups, classical and non-standard ensembles, of 2 up to 8 members playing any instruments of choice and voice, except wind instruments and a piano duet execution);
IV. Bassoon Solo
V. Wind Instruments Solo (both woodwind and brasswind, except bassoon, i.e. flute, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, tube);
VI. Wind Chamber Ensembles (includes performances by groups, classical and non-standard ensembles, of 2 up to 8 members playing wind instruments of choice and voice, except piano duet execution);
VII. Amateurs (piano solo, piano duo or solo wind instrument of choice and chamber ensembles of 2 to 8 members who perform instrumental and/or vocal music from classical and/or jazz repertoire).
Note for Article 2
a. Disciplines I-VI are further divided into categories based on participants’ age, i.e. study level;
b. Discipline VII involves candidates without any age limitations.
Article 3
The competition is held in Belgrade from 14 to 21 February 2010 (Disciplines I, II, III)) and from 5 to 10 March 2010 (Disciplines (IV, V, VI)). The schedule for the Discipline VII will be announced according to the type of the instrument (soloists) and/or composition of the ensemble.
Article 4
Discipline I: Piano Solo and Discipline II - Piano Duo
Categories and total duration of performances:
PreCategory - up to age 8, 5 mins max;
Cat. A - up to age 10, 8 mins max;
Cat. B - up to age 13, 10 mins max;
Cat. C - up to age 16, 15 mins max;
Cat. D - up to age 19, 20 mins max;
Cat. E - up to age 35, 20 mins max (for Piano Solo, both Stage I and Stage II), i.e. 30 mins max for Piano Duo).
Note for Art. 4, Disciplines I and II
a. The age limit in each category is determined by February 13, 2010 (see art. 13).
b. Competition in Discipline I, Cat. E is in two stages. Stage I is eliminatory. Duration of performances for each stage is 20 mins max.
Piano Solo programme
PreCategory - a freely selected repertoire.
Cat. A and Cat. B - Obligatory:
a. One movement either of a Sonatina or Sonata, or
b. Variations.
In addition to obligatory, candidates play a freely selected repertoire (one or more pieces).
Cat. C and Cat. D - Obligatory:
a. One movement of a Sonata, or
b. Variations, or
c. 1st movement of a piano concert
In addition to obligatory, candidates play a freely selected repertoire (one or more pieces).
Cat. E, Stage I - a freely selected repertoire;
Cat. E, Stage II - Obligatory - one virtuous etude, plus a freely selected repertoire (one or more pieces, incl. 1st movement of a piano concert).
Piano Duo programme
PreCategory - a freely selected repertoire.
Cat. A - a freely selected repertoire (one or more pieces).
Cat. B and Cat. C - a freely selected repertoire (two or more pieces by different authors).
Cat. D and Cat. E - a freely selected repertoire (two or more pieces by different authors, compulsory from at least two muisc epochs).
NOTES for Piano Solo
a. In all categories candidates will play from memory;
b. Each candidate can enter the competition in two categories maximum, in each age category and in an older category, but with different programme;
c. The organization will provide a piano accompanist for the Cat. C, D, E. The service will be charged an additional fee as shown at Article 12.
d. The participants are required to submit to the jury at least one copy of the pieces they intend to perform, as shown at Article 11.
NOTES for Piano Duo
In all categories candidate may play repertoire by following scores (see Art. 11).
Article 5
Discipline III: Non-Wind Chamber Ensembles
Categories and total duration of performances:
Cat. A - pupils from elementary music schools, or appropriate music institutions, 10 mins max;
Cat. B - pupils from secondary music schools, or appropriate music institutions, 15 mins max (for all ensembles except string quartet), i.e. 25 mins max (for string quartet);
Cat. C - students of academies of music/conservatoires (without any age limitations), 30 mins max;
Non-Wind Chamber Ensembles programme
A freely selected repertoire for all categories.

a. In all categories candidate may play repertoire by following scores (see Art. 11).
Article 6
Discipline IV: Bassoon Solo
Categories and total duration of performances
PreCategory - up to age 12, 5 mins max;
Cat. A - up to age 14, 8 mins max;
Cat. B - up to age 16, 10 mins max;
Cat. C - up to age 18, 15 mins max;
Cat. D - up to age 20, 20 mins max;
Cat. E - up to age 30, 30 mins max;

Article 7
Discipline V: Wind Instruments Solo (except bassoon)
Categories and total duration of performances
PreCategory - up to age 11, 5 mins max, except for flute 8 mins max;
Cat. A - up to age 13, 8 mins max, except for flute 10 mins max;
Cat. B - up to age 15, 10 mins max, except for flute 12 mins max;
Cat. C - up to age 17, 15 mins max;
Cat. D - up to age 19, 20 mins max;
Cat. E - up to age 30, 30 mins max;
Bassoon Solo and Wind Instruments Solo programme
PreCategory - a freely selected repertoire.
Cat. A and Cat. B - a freely selected repertoire (at least two pieces of different character).
Cat. C - a freely selected repertoire (two or more pieces from at least two music epochs).
Cat. D - Obligatory:
a. 1st movement either from a concert or sonata, or
b. 2nd and 3rd movement either from a concert or sonata, or
c. Variations, or
d. At least two contrasting movements from a suite.
In addition to obligatory, candidates play a freely selected repertoire (at least two pieces of different character).
Cat. E - Obligatory:
a. 1st movement from a concert or sonata, or
b. 2nd and 3rd movement from a concert or sonata, or
c. Variations.
In addition to obligatory, candidates play a freely selected repertoire (at least two pieces of different character).
Notes for Cat. D and Cat. E
a. If the concert and/or the sonata consists of four movements, instead of 1st movement only, candidates must play 1st and 2nd movement, and instead of 2nd and 3rd movement, candidates must play 3rd and 4th movement;
b. Performing of a Cadenza is not obligatory;
NOTES for Discipline IV and Discipline V
a. The age limit in each category is determined by March 4, 2010 (see art. 13).
b. In all categories candidate may play repertoire by following scores (see Art. 11).
c. Each candidate can enter the competition in two categories maximum, in each age category and in an older category, but with different programme;

Discipline VI: Wind Chamber Ensembles
Categories and total duration of performances:
Cat. A - pupils from elementary music schools, or appropriate music institutions, 15 mins max;
Cat. B - pupils from secondary music schools, or appropriate music, 20 mins max;
Cat. C - students of academies of music/conservatoires (without any age limitations), 25 mins max;
Wind Chamber Ensembles programme
A freely selected repertoire for all categories.

a. In all categories candidate may play repertoire by following scores (see Art. 11).

Article 9
Discipline VII: Amateurs
Discipline VII involves candidates without any age limitations.
Amateurs programme
A freely selected repertoire, from 5 to 20 mins max.
NOTES for Discipline VII
a. Amateurs are candidates who don't attend any music school or academies of music/conservatoires.
b. Only classical and/or jazz repertoire allowed.
Article 10
At any time the jury may shorten/interrupt the participants’ performance if it will exceed the maximum duration allocated to their categories.
Article 11
The participants are required to submit to the jury at least one copy of the pieces they intend to perform (photocopies will not be returned). Transcriptions are allowed but easy versions will not be accepted.

Article 12
The organization will provide a piano accompanist if required by the candidate and marked in application form. The service will be charged an additional fee of euro 40 per hour (either rehearsal or competition performance). The soloists, who need the services of the official piano accompanist are required to mail (photocopy) or email (PDF version) a copy of the scores they want to play.
Article 13

Applications to the current competition have to be submitted both by e-mail and regular mail (printed version), after completing the application form and following the instructions as shown on the official website, not later than 31 December 2009 (for Disc. I, II, III, VII), i.e. 31 January 2010 (for Disc. IV, V, VI). Postmark will be proof of mailing. Application forms shall be accompanied by a copy of candidate's birth certificate.
The applicants from Serbia are required to mail a copy of the payment receipt for the registration fee showing participant’s name and surname. The applicants from other countries will pay registration fee as shown in Article 14.
Article 14
Registrations fees
Piano Solo: Precategory, Cat. A and Cat. B euro 40;
Piano Solo: Cat. C, Cat. D and Cat. E euro 50;
Piano Duo: Precategory, Cat. A and Cat. B euro 40;
Piano Duo: Cat. C, Cat. D and Cat. E euro 50;
Bassoon and Wind instruments Solo: Precategory, Cat. A and Cat. B euro 40;
Bassoon and Wind instruments Solo: Cat. C, Cat. D and Cat. E euro 50;
Chamber Ensembles (all categories): euro 20 (per member).
Amateurs: Soloists euro 50, Chamber Ensembles euro 30 (per member).
NOTES for Chamber Ensembles
The registration fees for ensembles are not aggregate amounts and depend of the number of members of each group in a category.
For candidates from Serbia the registration fees must be paid to Bank Account 840-4835760-71 before the registration deadline. For candidates from other countries registration fees are payable in local currency RSD directly at the competition’s office before the competition starts (please refer to National bank of Serbia middle exchange rate). All bank charges incurred must be borne by the applicant. Registration fees are not refundable under any circumstances.
Article 15
The competitors must indicate in the application form the name of their teacher. In case of teaching or family relations between a competitor and a member of the jury, the latter will abstain from voting.
Article 16
Placement of the competitors takes stand towards final amount of points from point-list of jury members and dividing of total amount of points with number of members who made review.
All competitors of each category obtaining a score not inferior to 95/100 will receive a FIRST PRIZE diploma and a medal.
All competitors of each category obtaining a score not inferior to 90/100 will receive a SECOND PRIZE diploma and a medal.
All competitors of each category obtaining a score not inferior to 85/100 will receive a THIRD PRIZE diploma.
All competitors of each category obtaining a score not inferior to 75/100 will receive an ACKNOWLEDGEMENT.
The jury reserves the right to award special prize named "LAUREAT" to the competitor obtaining the highest score (not inferior to 95/100) in each category. In a case that more competitors, solo-performers have same amount of points, younger competitor obtains preference over the other, and for duos and chamber ensembles jury makes final decision about placement.
Article 17
In addition to diploma, the prizewinners may be awarded by cup, as well as valuable gifts provided by competition’s sponsors. All the participants traditionally receive welcome gifts provided by competition’s sponsors. Additional awards and gifts are subject to change without notice.
Article 18
Some of the the winners of the first prizes of each category may participate in the final concert, open to the public, and will execute the pieces chosen by the jury.
Article 19
The tutors, whose students have been awarded a first prize, will be bestowed with an honorary diploma during the award ceremony. The organization reserves the right to award special recognition to the most successful tutor(s) based on his/her students results at the current competition.
Article20
The jury lies under the competence of the competition director. Decisions of the jury are irrevocable.

Article 22
Music School Davorin Jenko reserves the right to acquire and publish audiovisual material. The participants are not entitled to make any claims, either monetary or of any other nature in regards to their performances during the event, to any possible recording, as well as any video, audio and web publication.
Article 23
The organization is not responsible for any risks, injuries or damages of any kind suffered by the participants during the event.
Article 24
Registration to the competition entails full acceptance of these rules and regulations and it has to be intended as disclaimer for minors for the dissemination of images and/or recordings made during the course of the competition and after the competition. Any case of dispute will lie within the jurisdiction of the Court of Belgrade; only the Serbian text will apply.
Article 25
The Competition is held under patronage of Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia.
